Alex Osmond

I love creating digital content, graphics, and experiences that look and feel great on any screen or canvas.

I currently work as a Senior Product Designer for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints designing web applications and tools for Church membership and leaders to perform administrative tasks. I also design user experiences for various Church portfolios, spanning at least 46 languages with tens of thousands of users per month. I also enjoy working on freelance projects here and there. I design for the user first and then help negotiate solutions with stakeholders until successful outcomes are achieved. I believe that quality is more important than quantity.

In order for me to design for a medium, I strive to be learning and developing with it. As a Product Designer, I am fluent with development language as much as design, research, or business language. This enables me to create connections between all business partners involved in the creation of a product.

With my skillset, I also enjoy front-end development using Angular and React. I'm an experienced Product and UX Designer. I am skilled in Rapid Prototyping, UX, Front-end Development, and CSS. I'm an information technology professional with a Digital Media degree from Utah Valley University focused in Internet Technologies.

When I am not working on creative projects, I love guitar, cooking, blogging, camping, golf, and flying r/c airplanes!

What I Do

Web Design

I love taking complex workflows or challenges and simplifying them into an enjoyable user experience that is intuitive and easy to understand. To me, good design is when the user doesn't have to think about how to use the product.

Web Development

Not only do I love being creative with design, but I also love to bring the design to life. I personally believe the future for design work involves a firm foundational understanding of web languages. I'm more of a designer than a developer, but I have gained a lot of experience working with developers with Angular and React coding using IntelliJ.

WordPress

I have gained a lot of experience with content management systems over the years. WordPress is by far my favorite CGM. I have enjoyed customizing and designing templates for personal and freelance projects.

Graphics

Besides web design, creative projects for any medium or canvas is something that I also enjoy. Posters, flyers, T-shirts, cards, and even custom board games are some of many examples of really fun projects I have created.

Photo Editing

Enhancing and correcting imperfections with photos is another skill I enjoy. Besides the standard usage of optimizing images for the web, I also enjoy creative projects and learning new skills in Photoshop.

Audio & Video Production

Some other hobbies of mine are recording voice, audio, guitar, and making movies and fun trailers with my kids. Post production is what I enjoy the most.

I love my major because it kept me well rounded in all things digital media. I emphasized and focused my studies on Internet Technologies studying Web Development and Design, but gained a lot of experience with Digital Audio Production, Cinema Production, and Animation and Game Development.

Designed graphics in promotional magazines that were delivered to over 60,000 homes. Managed a team of 35 employees. Accounted for daily transactions averaging $3,000 - $6,000 and maintained a record of total profit.
